It’s baseball season again and the City College Panthers are gearing up for another winning season.
For the third year in a row City College is entering the season ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. The Panthers have been Big 8 Conference champions for the last two years.
“It’s tradition, really,” commented right fielder Floyd Given.
The City College Panthers have a long history of dominating their conference. The team is led by head coach Andy McKay, who was promoted to head coach in 1999. McKay has been involved with Panther baseball for 20 years, starting as a student/player.

City College has sent more than 30 players to the major leagues, starting with John “Spider” Jorgenson who went to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. The most recent Panther to graduate to the majors was Joe Thurston, who played for City College from 1998-99. He is currently playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Now is the opportunity to see the next generation looking to make City College its stepping stone to the major leagues.
