The HBCU transfer program brought 20 Historically Black Colleges and Universities to recruit students at City College on Oct. 30, 2023. HBCU are partner schools with the California Community College system, which allows students to transfer from any community colleges across the state to their institutions with a transfer guarantee. Students must have a minimum of 30 transferable units, with a GPA starting at a 2.0 or a 2.8 depending on the college. African Americans are guaranteed admission using the 30 units or an associate degree to transfer.

Dr. Helen Young, assistant director for CCC to HBCU Transfer Guarantee, explained the work they did at the event. “We were able to conduct a couple of workshops and give updated information to students today and I was very pleased with the students that came through, it was a great day,” she said.
