City College football (1-2) lost its second straight home game in a close, non-conference, match-up against Santa Rosa Junior College (2-1) 32-31 at Hughes stadium on Sept. 20.
Santa Rosa Bear Cubs received the ball first but could not score on its opening drive. The Bear Cubs went on to put the first points on the board with a field goal on their third drive of the game.
The Panthers, led by starting quarterback Jason Samuels, went on a 12-play, 80-yard drive at the end of the first quarter, scoring on a 30-yard pass to running back Josh Hadley. On the touchdown, Samuels bobbled the snap, scrambled around the pressure, and threw a pass to the end zone to a wide-open Hadley.
After a punt, by the Bear Cubs on the ensuing drive, the Panthers would go on the attack again. The team started on its own 36-yard line. On the first play of the drive, Samuels took the snap and threw a 34-yard pass to wide receiver Jordan Morrison. The next play, running back Henry Enyenihi took a hand-off and ran for a 30-yard touchdown to put City College up 14-3.
The Bear Cubs responded on their next drive, when quarterback Christian McAlvain threw a 14-yard touchdown to wide receiver Terrence Drew, capping off a 4-play, 60-yard drive, putting the score at 14-10.
Panthers’ back-up quarterback Justin Moore stepped in for Samuels and finished off the first half. On his first drive, Moore led the Panthers on a 10-play, 76-yard drive that ended with a 25-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Terrell Crawford.

Samuels ended the game throwing 13-28 for 217 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Moore added 5-10 for 77 yards and 1 touchdown. Morrison led the team with 9 receptions for 167 yards and a touchdown.
The Panther’s next game is Sept. 27 against Modesto Junior College in Modesto Calif.
