City College baseball failed to get the three-game sweep on Sierra College March 28 when the Wolverines defeated the Panthers 10-3.
The Wolverines started the game with three hits and two runs scored in the first inning. Designated hitter Kyle Dixon got home from a sacrifice fly after a double down the right field line put him on base. The second run came by a RBI double from shortstop Bret Sundber.
The Panthers would mirror Sierra’s first inning with one run on three hits. Catcher Austin Spainhour singled up the middle to bring center fielder Jared James home for an RBI. City College ended the inning with three runners on base.
Sierra gained one more run off City College’s starting pitcher Gabe Araj in the top of the third inning. Araj pitched shutout innings in the forth and fifth before Coach Derek Sullivan brought Grant Yost to the mound.
The Wolverines began to pull away in the seventh inning when the team scored five runs on three hits and two errors. Sullivan pulled Yost for Taylor Shores with only one out in the inning. Shores and defense finished the inning without any further damage.

Two more runs by Sierra in the eighth inning resulted in another pitching change. Panthers’ pitcher Austin Schiber came to the mound with one out and escaped the inning with no more runs.
The Panthers attempted to make a move in the ninth inning and got just two runs on three hits. First baseman Robby Link and catcher Adam Grindheim each got RBIs on the inning.
The game would be the second of only two home losses on the season for the Panthers (18-4). Credit for the loss went to Araj (3-2).
