Sacramento City College Russ Solomon Gallery hosted the opening reception for the latest installment of student photographic work on Wednesday, April 8.
The featured photography is a selection of work from the current school year and encompasses a range of styles, processes and approaches.
Sixty-six students total participated in the exhibit. Among those is Raul Gonzo, a student enrolled in “The Visual Self.” Gonzo said the class “dives into the philosophy of photography.” Gonzo does photoshoots in a style he described as: “Colorful, vibrant, poppy and color-blocky.”
Staff and professors from the photography department attended the reception in support of students. Gordon Lazzarone, a professor at City College, shared his thoughts on the student work displayed, some of which are by his own students.
“[I] love to see what work the students do that are deemed worthy for a show,” Lazzarone said. “It’s so rewarding to see students grow and produce interesting pictures.”
Jessica Layton, head of the photography department, has introduced a routine of rotating exhibitions of student work. This work featured in this show was chosen by professors, according to Layton.
The show is open through May 14.
