    Remembrance Day pays tribute to those who died

    SCC Day of Remembrance will occur on Sept. 1 on the Quad Stage noon-1 pm. Interim President Michael Poindexter will be the opening speaker, followed by speakers from other campus organizations.

    Representatives from the Veteran’s Resource Center, Los Rios Police Department, Respect, Integrity, Self-determination & Education (RISE) and family members will speak during the program.

    Student Services Vice President Debra Luff organized the event. Luff said that the event is an opportunity to pay tribute to friends, family members, campus staff members and students that were lost recently.

    Rick Brewer, Public Information Officer, stated the program will include reading of names and lighting of candles followed by a moment of silence.

    “It will be very low-key and meaningful for all who attend,” Brewer said.

    One name that will be read is Roman Gonzalez. Gonzalez was killed on Sept. 3, 2015,  in the shooting on the City College campus.
