City College Faculty Art Show at Kondos Gallery

City College Faculty Art Show at Kondos Gallery

City College’s Kondos Gallery is currently hosting the Faculty Art Exhibit. The opening reception was held Thursday, Sept. 4, and the exhibit will run through Sept. 25.

The Faculty Art Exhibit highlights the work of City College art professors. Faculty exhibits give students a chance to see the artwork of the professors whose classes they may be attending in the future, according to Art Department Instructional Assistant Jennifer Griffin.

“Faculty shows are traditional at colleges,” said Griffin, “because the students really like to see what the professors do, what their art looks like, and whether they want to take their class based on their artwork.”

The exhibit features the work of the following City College professors: Frank Zamora, Chris Daubert, Micheale LeCompte, Kathleen Noonan, Anne Gregory, Bob Schumacher, Gioia Fonda, Ianna Frisby, Mark Buguski, Emily Wilson, Eric Wood, Michael Stevens, David Lobenberg, Eun Cho, Elizabeth Higgins O’Connor, Terry Peterson and Suzanne Adan.

Terry Peterson, professor of 3-D design and sculpture, is one of the professors whose work is on display at the exhibit. His untitled piece is a kinetic sculpture made of several different materials gathered from friends and family, as well as from his hometown, all of which, according to Peterson, have stories behind them.

Peterson describes his work as an intuitive process that, through time, accumulates and grows. Peterson says that he wants people to walk away wanting to see more.

“I’m always trying to have people answer questions and ask them,” said Peterson. “It’s like, when you’ve had a good cheeseburger or something, and you’ve had enough, but you want more. That’s what I’m going for. I want people to leave with questions and answers.”

Other works include a ceramic sculpture titled Buddah Vader I by ceramics professor Ianna Frisby, and a multimedia piece entitled Fairy Tale by professor Anne Gregory.

Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday, noon to 4 p.m. and Friday, noon to 3 p.m., at the Fine Arts Building, Room 123.
