Amiri Buckner is a staff writer for the Express. This is his first semester writing for the Express. He is interested in geopolitical events around the world, especially stories that explore how politics affects people, even ways that often go unnoticed domestically. He is also into covering sports, specifically basketball, football, and soccer.

What inspires Amiri’s passion for journalism is the injustice he sees in the world, such as corrupt warmongering politicians and greedy capitalists that he believes push society toward a late-stage capitalist dystopia. These issues fuel his journalistic goals, and they motivate him to ask questions and challenge those in positions of authority. He wants to become a journalist who holds powerful figures accountable and informs the public about what’s truly going on with those who govern us. 

One fun fact about Amiri is his knowledge of colonial history. He plans to transfer to Sacramento State to pursue his degree in journalism and continue improving his reporting skills.
