The City College debate team will be hosting the Hot Topix event Oct. 28 in the City College Student Center.
The debate will be moderated by special guest Jackie Boor, co-author of the book “Inside the Presidents Helicopter,” and will also include an additional Q&A session moderated by Boor at the conclusion of the debate.
“The Hot Topix debate is one of the center pieces of our public debate initiative,” said debate coach Jared Anderson. “It is meant to reach out to students through debate and engage them in current issues without the pressures of competitive debate.”
According to Anderson, this year’s Hot Topix will be a team of three versus three public “value” styled debate. They will discuss the issues of privacy and free speech in today’s world, without the use of speed-reading or debate jargon for a more viewer friendly debate.

“Last season the debate team was awarded for our quality work in the public sphere because of events just like this,” Anderson said. “We don’t just compete. We apply our skills to the community.”
The event takes place from 6-8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 by going to the debate team squad room located in Temp 9-2 or at the door for $12.
