The City College Panthers hosted a doubleheader against Chabot College at Union Stadium Feb 8, winning 12-1 in the second game after a 3-0 lost for the first.
The sun was shining brightly over Union Stadium when the Panthers broke their three-game streak with Chabot College. They had lost their first away game at Chabot’s stadium in Hayward 2-1.
“Chabot is really competitive,” Ben Brooks, a 19-year-old social science major and starting left-handed pitcher. “They really came out to play.”
The score was a steady 0-0 until Chabot brought in a run toward the middle of the fifth inning and it stayed 1-0 toward the middle of the ninth inning. According to infielder Orlando Ortiz, the Panthers just kept running themselves out of the innings.
“It was a pretty close game,” said Ortiz, 20-year-old business major after the first game. “We kept running out of innings, but nothing that we can’t adjust to.”

Ortiz is not the only player on the team that thought adjustments were necessary, Nineteen-year-old infielder, Sal Barajas thought the same thing.
“It was a good game,” said Barajas. “We could have done a few things differently during the first game, but they [Chabot] are pretty good. We just need to hit the ball and focus.”
In the second game of the doubleheader, they did just that. Coming back from a 3-0 loss earlier that afternoon to a 12-1 win that evening.
The City College Panthers will take on the Butte College Roadrunners in Oroville on Feb 14.
