City Forum will return with a discussion on Prop 30 on Oct. 22, a controversial item that will appear on ballots in November. This proposal is of particular importance to community college students and instructors.
“We have an event every semester called the City Forum about a topic of interest to the city,” explained Jared Anderson, City College professor of communication and coordinator of the City Forum event. “We thought with the election coming up, what better topic to talk about than Prop 30.”
The event will be a forum-style discussion. Anderson will gather a panel of experts, people who know a lot about the topic, and the debate team and honor society will ask them questions. By the end, the experts get through their different perspectives and then the audience can make up their minds based on the opinions being presented by the experts, Anderson said.
Anderson explained the importance of Proposition 30 to City College.

The event will be recorded and will be streamed live on the Internet with the intent of screening the discussion at other colleges throughout the state and for increased viewership in the City College sphere.
The forum is free and will take place on Monday at noon in the City College Student Center. The event is expected to last about one hour and a half.
Oct. 22 is also the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election. A table for students and staff to register to vote will be available at the forum event.
More information on this event and Prop. 30 will be availble in the Oct. 23 print edition of the Express.
