Financial Aid offers new options

The Los Rios Community College District is in collaboration with Higher One, a banking service provided by the Bancorp Bank, to offer students financial aid the same day of disbursement.

“The panel chose Higher One from all the vendors as the organization that would best meet our needs and provide the services that were requested by our students are indicated in a student survey taken before we went through the selection process,” said City College interim Associate Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services Catherine Fites.

When City College students were asked how they felt about the LRCCD OneCard, some students were skeptical about underlying issues the card may have and some students were enthusiastic about the convenience.

“They will look at what students are doing with their money,” said nursing major Khoticha Aziz, expressing her outlook on what could happen. “We should have our own privacy.”

Although privacy can be a factor if students decide to consider this option, Higher One offers students 24/7 online banking and a free checking account with the purchasing power of Debit MasterCard. Higher One has also made it clear the LRCCD OneCard is not a credit card.
