City College student arrested, released for recording video in restroom

A City College student was arrested March 2 for attempting to take video of other students inside bathroom stalls.

Jhamon Venerable, 19, walked into a men’s restroom on the main campus and recorded video through a stall partition hole, according to a report from CBS 13. Two students noticed Venerable’s phone and reported his actions to authorities.

City College officials sent out an email to students March 4 regarding the incident. According to the email, custodians will soon check all restrooms on campus for holes in the walls and stalls.

Update: In the March 4 email, Interim President Michael Poindexter explained future safety precautions City College staff plans to take to avoid future incidents in bathrooms. Custodians have been asked to search all restroom stalls on campus during daily and nightly cleaning duties. If any holes are found during these searches, supervisors will be notified immediately. Police will also be more present on campus as investigation into the case continues. Poindexter urges students who notice anything suspicious to contact campus police at (916) 558-2221.
