“One, two, three… Panthers!” exclaimed the women’s soccer team at the end of its Thursday afternoon practice.

Hyping themselves up before their season opening Sea Breeze Tournament in Oxnard, Calif., the women on the team glided through their practice at the softball field despite a lack of competitive playing time.

“It’s good bonding time during the tournament,” says Alina Perez, a 19-year-old defender for the Panthers.

The team was supposed to have a season opening home scrimmage against Ohlone College on Tuesday, Aug. 28, but the event was cancelled because of the ongoing construction at Hughes Stadium.

While head coach Jang-Ha Oh believes the team will be at a disadvantage against other teams at the tournament who might have a game or two completed for their season, he says that the team is better than ever.

“[We’re] going to win both games this year [at the tournament],” says an enthusiastic Oh.

The team’s next scheduled game is Friday, Sept. 7 at Hughes Stadium at 3 p.m. against DeAnza College, directly following the stadium’s dedication ceremony.
