Walk for Thought brings brain trauma awareness to Sacramento

The 5th annual Walk for Thought fundraiser makes its Sacramento stop on Sunday, March 25, at the West Steps of the State Capitol to help the nonprofit Brain Injury Association of California (BIACAL)  raise money and spread awareness about the dangers of brain trauma.

Walk for Thought is BIACAL’s largest fundraising campaign of the year, with 10 stops in 10 cities across California. The group’s statewide goal is to raise $300,000 to help sustain the ongoing efforts of BIACAL and each city host’s nonprofit organizations.  Participants can walk between one and three laps around the State Capitol with registration fees of $30 for adults, $25 for people with brain injuries and $20 for K-12 students.  Tax-deductible donations are also accepted for those who are unable to participate but would like to contribute.

BIACAL encourages all registrants to actively raise funds themselves  by creating and joining their own walk teams.  City College instructor Marlene Steele and the Occupational Therapy Assistant students have team of  42 walkers and invite  invite anyone interested to join them on Sunday to help raise their goal of $1000.

“This is our fifth year doing the Walk,” says Steele.  “It’s  for a good cause and a lot of fun and we hope to see you out there!”
