City College athletes made an impressive showing as they hosted a track meet showcasing athletes from several community colleges throughout northern California Feb. 20.

“I think we did very well,” said men’s head track coach Rob Dewar. “We accomplished a lot of things that we wanted to do. There were a couple of guys that really didn’t compete, and I tell all my guys when they come off the track, they got to give me 110 percent and I’ll see it in their eyes. I looked in their eyes and they didn’t give me—they didn’t give themselves 110 percent. There were only about three or four of those guys.”

Fletcher Carlyle had the best showing for the men, winning the high jump with a height of 6-8, as well as the long jump with a jump of 22-9 1/2.

“My times will only get better,” Collins said. “The whole track team is hard working, determined and going to keep winning.”

City College also won the 400, 400 hurdles and high jump.

The men’s team received a score of 176, placing them second. The women’s team had a dominating performance, scoring 201.5 points, a full 100 points over second place.

“The goal of a meet is never to win,” said women’s head coach Lisa Baudin, “It’s just to get improvement and winning takes care of itself. We’re just looking every week to improve our marks and try to get stronger and be more competitive and gain more experience, so when we get into the championship part of the season, we’ll be able to represent well.”
