A new age in teaching

For over a decade now, online instruction has offered students an alternative to the scheduled lecture courses that were previously available only on campus.

With the current economic climate and the influx of students seeking higher education, many professors are embracing the Internet as a valuable tool to make learning more accessible to the growing number of students, according to instructors who’ve added online courses to their teaching schedules.

The number of online classes has increased significantly since they first popped up in the mid-1990s. City College now offers more than 100 courses in more than 40 subjects. Tom Miner, [read more...]

The relationship between a man and his dog is unique, but for a disabled person with a service dog, that bond can mean a world of difference.

Luis Carlos Montalván, 38, a 17-year Army veteran from Manhattan, has such a relationship with his dog, Tuesday.

Montalván, who retired from the military after his second tour of Iraq in 2007, brought Tuesday to City College Sept. 28 to talk about his physical and mental disabilities and their long journey chronicled in his book, “Until Tuesday.”

A closer look: ‘Sleeping Beauty’ causes heavy slumber

City College’s Storytime Theatre has a new production, the title of which couldn’t better represent the audience’s reaction for its 30-minute run. The minute “Sleeping Beauty” began, it was as if an enchanted snoozing spell had been cast over audience.

The play is meant to be an adaptation of the Disney animated film, but it was anything but: The children in attendance looked like confused vegetables sitting in front of a television set.
