Doonan has spent summers digging in Peru and lecturing on diverse topics around the world. After starting a family and subsequently putting archaeological fieldwork on pause, Doonan published three novels in between raising his two young sons and teaching full time at City College. His third novel, “American Caliphate,” was released April 10 this year.

“American Caliphate,” which centers around two archaeologists searching the ruins of Peru’s pyramids for a long lost document that would stun the Islamic world, was an idea he had while doing fieldwork in the Peru.

Football career achievement sends defensive lineman to New York

Mark Garrick is a beast, standing 6-foot, 4-inches, 270 pounds. His impact during the City College football team’s 2011 season was rewarded with being named to the 2011 Mid-Empire All Conference defensive team as defensive lineman.

Though he may seem larger than life on paper, he is just a down to earth guy from the East Coast. At just 20 years old, this business major ran a 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds while compiling 54 tackles on the season, which led to his Mid-Empire All Conference team honors. A new age in teaching

For over a decade now, online instruction has offered students an alternative to the scheduled lecture courses that were previously available only on campus.

With the current economic climate and the influx of students seeking higher education, many professors are embracing the Internet as a valuable tool to make learning more accessible to the growing number of students, according to instructors who’ve added online courses to their teaching schedules.

Speakers to discuss LGBT rights in Middle East, Africa 3-27

The City College International Studies Program and LGBT Friendly Campus will be hosting a discussion and Q&A event March 27 on sexual rights in the Middle East and North Africa at noon in the Cultural Awareness Center.

Guest speaker Zeina Zaatari will be giving a presentation with guest speakers Happy Hyder and Lara Kiswani in a staged reading of “Bareed Mista3jil”.

“Bareed Mista3jil” is a book composed of 41 true and personal stories by lesbians, bisexuals, queers and questioning women and transgendered from Lebanon.
