Spring break: how it has changed

Back in the days when MTV actually stood for “Music Television”, the best time of year to tune in was spring break, almost solely for the purpose of catching an episode of thet MTV show “Say What Karaoke”. It was hilarious. Give any hardcore spring breaker a microphone, an audience, and a healthy serving of liquid confidence, and you won’t believe how willing some people are to embarrass themselves. They truly epitomized the concept of self-deprecation versus vocal talent, and self-defecating. I was sold!

The show really made it seem like spring break was all about competing for that proverbial 15 minutes of fame, like the only way to spend your week away from school was getting halfway through “Livin’ La Vida Loca” before realizing that teleprompters won’t save you from double vision.

In my own defense, I was probably 8 years old last time I caught an episode of “Say What? Kareoke”. The idea of having a week-long escape from reality on a warm, sunny beach in the middle of a boisterous mob of swimsuit clad college students seemed somehow chaotic and exciting, but after about a year of visiting a friend’s dorm for a weekend escape every month or so when I became old enough to party, I realized that partying with people who throw raging parties all the time can be really exhausting.

It is a cialis discounts big cause of concern for our metabolism and heart which is constantly making it worse. Life is chaotic enough balancing work, school, and some excuse for a social life. When I finally get a break from the monotonous routine of college education, the No. 1 item on my list of priorities is sleep. Somewhere between food, picking up extra hours at work, and more sleep, I do have a burning desire to scope out good Bay Area metal shows. Unfortunately, there’s nothing on the radar for this year, but that does not mean my spring break will be in vain.

I will still have plenty of time to enjoy my favorite vacation activity: taking a day to do as little as possible (for as long as possible) at some quiet form of beach within driving distance. Instead of cramming a week’s worth of precisely scheduled activities into my temporary escape from routine, I prefer finding a destination far enough that I’ll be able to listen to a few albums on the way there, and close enough that I won’t have to look for a hotel or a Wal-Mart parking lot to crash in for the night.

If the amount of planning you put into your vacation is equal to or greater than the amount of stress you collect from daily living, then you’re trying too hard. Way too hard. Try to keep it simple. Grab some good food, some cold drinks, a book you can pretend you might read, and leave the stress at home!
