Melanie Lasaste, founder of Davis Seed Savers Alliance, will be speaking Oct. 22 at City Farm behind Lillard Hall about how to establish a seed library and a seed garden.

A seed library is a storehouse where seeds are held and members of the library are able to borrow seeds for their garden. Once their seeds are grown into plants, the harvested seeds from those plants are returned for other members to use. According to City Farm Faculty Coordinator Robyn Waxman, collecting seeds is one of the most important things people can do.

“Saving seeds might be one of the most important things we do in times of food insecurity,” said Waxman. “Why not learn how to do that now?”
