City College softball defeated Reedley College in the Northern Regional Playoffs May 4-5 to advance to the Northern California Super Regional Playoffs.
The Panthers were unbeatable Friday and Saturday during the first round of the Northern Regional Playoffs, sweeping the Tigers in games one and two of the playoffs. The 11-3 and 11-0 wins move the Panthers forward to the playoffs May 9-11.
In the first game of the series, the Panthers proved their dominance by scoring 11 runs on 17 hits, winning 11-3 against the Tigers.
The Panthers attacked in the first inning to score three runs on four hits. With a runner in scoring position, shortstop Mickey Loveridge—who was 4-4 on the day—hit an RBI single. Two batters later, right fielder Megan Winton hit a two-run home run to left-center field.
The Tigers scored two of their three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Their first came off a home run from designated hitter Spencer Silva, Tigers’ first batter of the inning. Center fielder Colby Berry followed later in the inning to hit a RBI double. The Tigers ended the inning with two runs on four hits and two runners on base.
Panthers’ starting pitcher Ashten Welch stopped the Tigers’ momentum in the second inning when she retired nine consecutive batters during innings three through five.
The Panthers blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning to record six runs on six hits. Winton and second baseman Stephanie Bagwell both hit RBI singles early in the inning. With two outs and a runner on base, the Panthers began a two-out rally.
Third baseman Morgan Green and center fielder Aaliyah Oliver hit RBI singles. With the bases loaded, Loveridge followed with a two-run single. Loveridge attempted to reach second base but tagged out before the third runner crossed home plate.
In the top of the sixth, Tigers second baseman Marissa Faccinto hit a home run to left-center field, recording the Tigers third and final run of the game.

Panthers’ left fielder Nicole Miller—who subbed for starting left fielder Riley Ammaturo in the fifth inning—hit a RBI single to go up 10-3 in the sixth inning. Designated hitter Lucia Lopez-Ramirez hit a two-run double to end the game on an 8-run rule in sixth inning.
In the second game of the series, Welch’s pitching performance helped lead the team to 11-0 victory.
Welch almost threw a no-hitter in the second game, allowing only one hit that came early in the fifth inning. Although short of a no-hitter, Welch threw a shutout and faced only 18 batters.
Loveridge continued her dominance in the second game, hitting a home run, her first at-bat. In her final three at-bats of the game, the Tigers intentionally walked Loveridge, leaving her with a 1.000 batting average and on-base percentage for the two games.
Panthers’ Lopez-Ramirez hit a two-run double in the top of the second inning, bringing her weekend total to two doubles, a single and four RBIs. Winton hit a two-run triple to cap off her weekend of five RBIs, a triple and two singles.
Miller and Oliver each had RBI-doubles while first baseman Taylor Martinez had an RBI-single.
With wins in both games, Welch (19-5) needs just one more for a 20-win season.
The Panthers advance to play the Northern California Super Regional Playoffs, a double-elimination style tournament May 9-11, at College of San Mateo. There, the Panthers will face Ohlone College, College of San Mateo, and San Joaquin Delta College.
