    SCC Celebrates Hall of Fame Inductees

    A silver-haired man makes his way to the podium. He is shorter and smaller than you would expect for a former football player. He’s soft spoken and everyone quiets
    down to hear him speak.
    His name is Pete Vartanian, and he is being honored for his achievements
    on the 1951-52 City College football and baseball teams. He is one of seven former students and administrators being inducted into the City College Athletics Hall of Fame.

    In addition to Vartanian, new inductees included Carol “Chants” James (1965-67) for basketball, field hockey and softball; Jeff Kubiak (1985) for swimming; Jose Reyes (1983-84) for wrestling; Shawna Smith-Virga (1981-82) for softball; Alex Van Dyke (1991-93) for football and track; and Beth Hightower (posthumously,
