RALLY ‘ROUND THE FLAG | Spending green on green living

Christine Carey | Managing Editor
[email protected]

I don’t know about you, but I’m really getting sick of hearing news stations and commercials trying to plant the seed of “green living” into our gullible consumer-driven brains. It’s almost as if the media spread an airborne “green” disease into the country, and instead of the infected (you) being quarantined, you have leg room the size of California’s budget deficit.

Is everybody so gullible that they believe everything they hear all the time? I might as well go to a middle school and tell children that “green living” includes smoking massive amounts of marijuana; I guess that’s the closest I can come to making my point. I know whoever is reading this probably thinks my last comment was the equivalent to punching a baby in the face. But seriously, stop being a drone and look around you.

You’re working to give your hard-earned money to someone that came up with a brilliant way to easily take your cash and make you feel good about it.

During another study, 92 percent of the cats of over 12 years of age and older under radio graphic studies had articular degeneration symptoms. http://downtownsault.org/shirts-things/ online viagra sales In my world this whole strain of shenanigans started when NBC had a green special on the news, and even their little wannabe peacock mascot was green instead of the usual array of colors. I watched as Safeway consumers brought in bags to carry out their groceries, and then proudly and publicly claimed with their heads held high they bought it for $60 to help support the environment. What a crock of shit.

The one thing non-profit organizations and companies have figured out is that people will spend money on something if it’s for the environment. It makes you feel good about yourself and makes you feel better about the world you live in. For instance, if you give a bum a dollar on the street, you feel good for a minute or two, and then you realize the dollar you just gave him/her could be the very dollar that person needed to get that pint of whiskey. You then, automatically feel like an idiot and realize you just wasted an opportunity to order from the dollar menu at a fast-food joint. See what I mean?

Spending money on “green living” has no pros, and for some consumers the cons are what they’re buying into—or the double cheeseburger.

It’s pretty ridiculous, not to mention pretentious, for us to think that we can solve all the world’s problems by this “green living” and everything will end happily ever after. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s amazing that people have decided to pay more attention to the world’s environmental problems. However, buying into the “green living scams” isn’t going to get us anywhere.

There are legitimate companies that actually forward the interest of green living which leaves some hope, but if you’re purchasing items from companies or non-profit organizations that sell products that are obscenely overpriced and claim to be helping the world one tree at a time, you either need a huge reality check or just a huge checkbook.
