City College women’s soccer team has yet to find the way to its first win of the season.
In a losing effort by the score of 3-0 the Panthers, now 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the league, were unable to claw back into the game after the Hawk attack struck early Friday afternoon at Cosumnes River College.
Now 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the league, the Hawks’ secret to victory in the Big 8 conference opener was the speed of Katie Ulan, who scored all three goals against City College.
The scoring started early with Ulan’s first goal in the opening minutes of the game, the Hawks had won by scores of 7-0 and 5-1 coming into Friday’s game.
City College head coach Jang-Ha Oh said before the game that he was going to use the 4-2-3-1 formation for the conference match-up to help provide more support in the midfield as well as allow for more defensive capabilities.
“Hopefully we can play wider, hopefully we can score more goals,” Oh said. “We only have two sophomores on the team right now and one of them isn’t playing.”

Catalina passed the ball to her teammates as often as possible allowing for athletes in new positions on the field, such as freshman defender Stacy Iniguez, to play.
But with Ulan’s goals at the end of the second and her final coming with just two minutes left in the game, it was clear that the young City College team has yet to find the chemistry as a cohesive unit this season.
Oh said he feels that it is only a matter of time before the team members’ on-the-field performance matches their off-the-field work ethic.
Panther soccer will return to action Tuesday Sept. 27, 3 p.m. against San Joaquin Delta College at Granite Park.
