Adjustments on defense help in victory
City College won Game 2 of a three-game series 4-2 against the Butte College Roadrunners Feb. 20 at Union Stadium.

Neither team scored in the second, and the inning ended quickly.
The Roadrunners batted in another run in the top of the third, pushing the score 2-0.
City College’s first at-bat in the bottom of the third sent catcher Austin Spainhour to first base after being hit by the pitcher. Spainhour advanced to second and again to third after second baseman Nolan Ryan and centerfielder Alex Muzzi both grounded out. First baseman Tyler Houlihan then singled to third base on a bunt and brought in Spainhour for a run, putting City College on the board at 2-1.
After the end of the fourth inning, City College rearranged a number of the on-field positions, which proved to be quite effective in later innings.
“We want to see the different positions the guys can play,” said head coach Derek Sullivan. “We want to see what our best options are for the lineup so we can get different hitters into the lineup and really see the guys in action.”

“It’s a different group of hitters,” said Sullivan. “The hitters are growing up. It’s a maturing process.”
The Panthers have continued to improve their overall batting average within the past few games.
“It’s all about adjusting to what the pitcher is doing,” said Sullivan. “And we’re continuing trying to make those adjustments.”
The Panthers took on the Roadrunners for the Game 3 of the series at Butte Feb. 21, where they won 9-3 and completed the series sweep.
