Beauty and Hope in the Midst of Destruction

March 19 was a sunny day on the City College campus. Walking towards the new gym, on my way to the book store, I could hear the water cascading in the fountain, the birds chirping, students laughing, banging their drums, playing their guitars, some singing, and construction equipment filling the air with a monstrous noise; the art building was in the midst of being torn down.

The first thing one realizes when arriving at Yosemite for the first time is that the magnitude of the mountains is far beyond what a picture could convey. They stand at a monolithic size in comparison to even the tallest buildings encountered.

In the midst of all the handouts given to students walking across campus, a pamphlet with a dead pig centerfold really stands out. Vegan Outreach is just one of the groups students encounter trying to get them to change their diets by giving them pamphlets with pictures of people and animals living happily together.
