Open Mic every Wednesday

There’s only one rule at Pangaea Cafe: Respect the mic.

When the clock strikes 7 p.m. every Wednesday the harmony begins at Pangaea Cafe.

Located on Franklin Blvd near Broadway Pangea Cafe is less than two miles from City College and hosts an open mic where local artists gather to share their music.

It begins with a collaborative jam session and ends with all the artists together singing the Pangaea Cafe theme song, “Give Me Some Love.”

“A few hours of relaxation and love is exactly what Pangaea Cafe open mic night is,” said Lin Luna, a regular hip-hop performer.”

Sign-ups to perform are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“Performances are all across the board with absolutely no boundaries,” said the event’s MC, Rodg Little.

Erik Bell, a drummer for a band called “The Bell Boys,” has been playing at the open mic for about six months and encourages new-comers.

“Get up there [and] play like you’re playing in your bedroom — like nobody’s watching,” Bell said.

Patrons of Pangea Cafe say the energy flowing in every Wednesday night is positive, comfortable and filled with diversity.

“[It’s] deeper than entertainment,” Little said.
