City College’s Russ Solomon Gallery is unveiling its new alumni photography show Oct. 15 as part of the campus centennial celebration.

The gallery will display works of City College alumni, including Ron Edmonds’ Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs of the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan.

“The show features students from the ’70s and ’80s,” said Randy Allen, photography and journalism professor at City College. “These photographers represent some of our most successful graduates.”

This is the fourth show to be featured at the gallery. Allen planned the present show with Paul Estabrook, chair of the City College photography department.

The two professors set a goal to reach out to people who were still active in photography and had long-established careers.

Allen expects the show to run until the end of the fall semester.

The gallery was unnamed until recently. A celebration on Oct. 26 will include a dedication officially unveiling the gallery’s name plaque.

A City College alumnus, Solomon was the first photographer featured in the gallery when it opened in 2015. Solomon founded the independent music chain Tower Records in the 1960s.

The alumni show will be part of the Oct. 15 centennial celebration on campus and runs from 1–5 p.m. The Solomon Gallery is located on the second floor of the Student Services building.
