The Spring 2009 track and field season took City College all the way to the California Community College Athletic
Association State Championships.
The Big 8 Conference, a meeting of eight Northern California colleges including Modesto, City College, Santa Rosa, Delta, American River, Diablo Valley, Sierra, and Cosumnes, saw City College in second place, behind ARC.
ARC had 114 points while City had 101. Prior to 2009, City College had been defending Northern California Cham-
pions for three years.
“The last three years we won it,” said Robert Dewar, head coach of City College’s men’s track and field team. “We had a pretty good team.”
Returning sophomore Michael Broussard placed second at the championships as a freshman competing in the 400 meter hurdles. This race put him into City College’s all-time top 10 at fourth overall.

Seagram Kern-Wilson, who transferred to Oklahoma Baptist University, placed fourth in the state meet.
“To place second and fourth at a state meet with the speed and ability they had was a big surprise for us,” Dewar said.
Amhad Lewis placed fifth in the 100 meter at the state championships with a time of 10:59. Lewis came back to City College in the spring and only had a few months to train prior to the championships with Dewar. He was also part of the relay team that placed second.
The women’s track and field team also went to the CCCAA State Championships.
According to Lisa Bauduin, head coach for the women’s track and field team, Susan Jackson was state champion for the high jump and MVP field athlete at the conference championships.
The relay team, made up of Mia Moreno, Davina Collins, Samantha Tansil, and Alisa Jenkins won the state championship.
“That group really surprised me as I never thought they could run that fast!” Bauduin said.
“We had a very close team that truly supported each other even with some injury setbacks during the season.”
