Robert Martinelli to retire

Nine years after being named vice president of administrative services at City College in October 2005, Robert Martinelli will retire in July.

According to Martinelli, he is ready to spend time with his family.

“It’s time to retire,” said Martinelli.

As he moves forward, students, staff and faculty will be reminded of Martinelli through the many contributions he will leave behind.

Through years of planning and executing renovations, upgrades and facelifts on campus, Martinelli’s contributions as VP helped to reform student environments on campus. Among those projects are Hughes Stadium and the Performing Arts Center renovations, and construction of the student parking structure. Other works are in progress, like the Student Services building and access to Curtis Park Village, both under construction.

Still, Martinelli says it won’t be the paperwork or the weekly schedule of work he will miss; it will be those who sit at the desks inside the various buildings and on the bleachers outside that he’s helped renovate over the years.

“The students [are what I’ll miss most],” said Martinelli.
