On a cold and rainy Feb.16 people from as far away as Hollywood gathered at the State Capitol to protest Proposition 8. Proposition 8 was created to ban same-sex marriage. Demanding to be heard, the assembly pleaded its case for equal rights regarding marriage, chanting, “Prop 8 equals hate,” and carrying signs that read, “We have a dream too,” and “Support marriage equality.”

Despite the gloomy weather, the overall mood was optimistic as singers and guest speakers rallied the crowd.

Applause and cheers were heard as former “Star Trek” star George Takei described his struggles against discrimination as both an Asian-American and as a gay man.

“Justice and equality will prevail,” said Takei with husband Brad Altman by his side.

Protest supporters consisted of moms, dads, and children. Some even brought their dogs.
