Student wins $90k scholarship

A City College student for the first time is a winner of the prestigious $90,000 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship announced April 14 in a foundation press release.

Xinyu Liu is one of 85 students from among applicants nationwide awarded the Foundation’s 2014 scholarship and the only winner from City College thus far. Known by his peers as Jason, 22-year-old computer science major Liu may receive up to $30,000 yearly from the foundation for as long as three years.

The foundation started the scholarship program in 2002 to help low-income community college students of certain criteria to complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university, according to the foundation’s website.
