Honors club supports relief efforts

Eleven days after the massive Japanese tsunami, the City College Honors Club staged a fundraiser to help the victims of the massive Japanese tsunami, a disaster that devastated the island nation March 11.

All the proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to the Save the Children Foundation and the American Red Cross.

The club sold a variety of goods, including books, baked treats and hot dogs, and the club accepted donations.

English Professor and Honors adviser Anna Joy said that early in the semester Honors Club members were pitching community service ideas. When they learned about the tsunami disaster in Japan, club members were ready to mobilize a fundraising effort.

“I wanted to be involved somehow. Being a part of something like this gives me a way,” said Honors Club member Brittany Kozitza, a first-year psychology major.

According to Joy, contributing to tsunami relief efforts was a clear course. She said that the Honors Club had done a lot of disaster fundraising in the past.
