Hitting the track

City College president lacing up sneakers for lunchtime walks again

A mission for City College President Kathryn Jeffery to get out of the office and get some exercise is turning out to be a springtime tradition.

In an interview Jeffery said she plans to start walking the track at lunchtime in mid-March, and everyone is invited.

“It’s a great way for classified, faculty, administrative [staff], students, anybody who wants to participate to get out,” Jeffery said. “There’s no hierarchy, there’s no pressure, and it’s a way to get some, albeit relatively minimal exercise during the week.”

“One of the things I like to do is be there for the walks,” Jeffery said. “I want to be there when we start it, even though I might not be able to come every time.”

Jeffery said last spring some students came to walk with her, as well as board members, including Pamela Haynes, who Jeffery said came at least once a week.

“You’re outside, you’re with colleagues that give you encouragement to do that extra lap,” Jeffery said. “I’ve missed it. I’m looking forward to starting it again.”
