Disability Awareness Art Week – UPDATE (Oct. 15)

Editor’s update: Folsom Lake’s DSPS office has extended the deadline for artwork to Oct. 19.

October is National Disability Awareness Month and Folsom Lake’s Disability Student Programs and Services department is now accepting artwork until Oct. 12 from all Los Rios students for their Disability Awareness Art Week.

Art Week is open to all Los Rios students with a verified disability and interested students must submit their art work in digital format—CD, DVD or by email–on the deadline day, by no later than 5 p.m.

There will be $500 in scholarship stipends awarded to the top three winners. First place receives $300 while second and third place win $100 each.

Disability Awareness Art Week was started five years ago by Folsom Lake DSPS coordinator Tim McHargue, whose goal was to show people with disabilities in a positive light.

City College student, Tim Tiff was last year’s top prize winner.

Disability Awareness Art Week is Oct. 29 through Nov. 1. A community reception to award the winners will be held in the Falcon’s Roost, Room 204 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Folsom Lake College on Nov. 1.

For additional information or assistance with submission of artwork, please contact Folsom Lake College’s Disability Student Programs and Services at (916) 608-6611.
