City College men’s basketball team falls to Diablo Valley

After the very emotional, action packed final home basketball game, the City College Panthers fell short against Diablo Valley Vikings Feb. 15, with a score of 69-57.

Diablo Valley Vikings stepped foot onto the court, they were determined to win. The Panthers trailed by only eight points in the first quarter, however, they were no match for the tough defense and outstanding blocks made by the Vikings.

The Panthers never gave up and fought back offensively, scoring 41 points while the Vikings lead by four points.

Both teams made numerous foul while taunting opposing sides.

The final two minutes of the game was truly intense as Panthers battled to make a comeback. With 28 seconds left in the game a fight broke out at the far end of the court. Team members from both sides jumped in and Panthers coach Andrew Jones was pushed to the ground while trying to break up the fight.

After things settled down the referees intervened. City College’s Greg Stahl was ejected from the game for a flagrant foul, Diablo Valley’s bench players were asked to head to the locker rooms to prevent any more confrontations.

The game was finished with the Panthers losing to the Vikings 69-57.

For its final event of the season, City College basketball faced and lost against Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, with the final score of 78-61.

The Panther’s hold an overall record of 15-10 and Big 8 Conference score of 7-7.
