Black History Month has once again returned to City College. Students and faculty can find a calendar full of on-campus events and activities throughout February celebrating the contributions of the black community to history.
The Cultural Awareness Center, along with the Interclub Council, is coordinating events throughout the month of February that will provide students a wide range of opportunities to learn and participate in Black History Month. Upcoming events include poetry readings, speeches, a film festival and art workshops.
“This is not just black history, but American history,” said CAC Coordinator Victoria Henderson.
An art workshop entitled “The Mask of Identity” will be held Thursday, Feb. 17,in the CAC from 10 a.m.-4p.m.. Artist Khali Keyi will assist students during the workshop, which is currently full.

A poetry reading with speeches Thursday, Feb. 24, from 3 to 5p.m., and a black student welcome reception on Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the CAC, will take place, as well.
“Activities maintain the Cultural Awarness Center’s mission and vision of increasing awareness,” said CAC coordinating assistant Claire Scott.
Black History Month will come to a close Monday, Feb. 28, with the opening of the African and Slave Memorabilia exhibit from the private collection of collector and public speaker Carl Davis. Viewing hours will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Cultural Awareness Center.
