City College basketball roars into playoffs

Both the men’s and women’s City College basketball programs have ridden their successful regular season momentum into the playoffs.

The men’s basketball team finished the regular season 16-12 and clinched the 18th seed in the NORCAL Regional playoffs. The Panthers won their first-round playoff game against Foothill College but lost in the second round to Feather River College. Sophomore standouts Brandon Rowden and Vic Rustin were voted to the Big 8 All-Conference team.

The women’s basketball team went from a 5-21 record last season to 20-8 this season and clinched their first winning season in 14 years. Leading the team into the playoffs was red-shirt freshman guard Jessica Lauderdale, whose success this season culminated with second-team All- State and Big 8 Conference honors.

The women’s team has won the first two playoff games and are scheduled to play Diablo Valley College March 2, in the third round of the NORCAL Regional playoffs.
