For the first time since 1982, there will be total lunar eclipse and a supermoon (when the moon is at its closest approach to Earth) in the same night.

During the lunar eclipse, the moon will be completely covered by the Earth’s shadow making the moon appear red in color at around 7:45 p.m. and will last for approximately one hour, according to the City College Observatory website.

Lunar eclipses, while not frequent, have only been visible from Sacramento only four times in the last five years.
