Cultural Awareness Center commemorates Black History Month

Meg Masterson January 29, 2015
The Cultural Awareness Center is kicking off the new year with a presentation and reading by author and educator Kakwasi Somadhi, and will host events throughout February to honor Black History Month. “For Black History Month, we try to offer a bunch of diverse programs,” says Tamara Knox, a student personnel assistant at the CAC. “We’re going to have a panel about the protest movement. With everything that’s going on in the news now, it’ll be great to have a dialogue about it.” The CAC strives to provide exciting programs that reflect the diversity of the campus, and promote the core values of the college. The center, which is nestled between the cafeteria and South Gym, is open for students to study and seek academic aid and hosts special events. The CAC sponsors educational films, dynamic speakers, community forums and diversity workshops to foster inclusion and cultural pride.
