The perils of going to a "commuter" school

Dude, really?

It’s getting warmer outside and the days are getting longer. We are half way through the semester.

One of the nice things about this time of the semester is that parking is much easier, or is it?

We may not have to park in the south lot anymore nor drive around and around the parking garage looking for a place to squeeze in, but some just don’t understand the concept of proper parking.

Has anyone even noticed that each level has a compact side and a standard side? It’s painted right on the darn concrete. So someone please explain to me why a nine-passenger Suburban feels the need to park its fat ass in a compact space. Not only are you taking up the space you stuffed yourself into, you also take up two other spaces. Those spaces may not be right next to you, but eventually parking across the lines on either side of you catch up with someone else down that row. Your butt also sticks out 2 feet farther than anyone else’s, and causes drivers seeking parking to veer around and usually into on coming traffic.

Then we have the special people who feel that taking two spaces for their precious vehicle is justified because they don’t want it dinged or scratched. That’s crap! If you are going to drive your vehicle and park in a public garage, you need to accept that dings and scratches are going to be part of the deal. If you are so worried that your precious car will get hurt, then ride the damn light rail. Or park it somewhere it won’t get damaged and walk the rest of the way. People should not be inconvenienced by egotistical car owners.

And for pity’s sake, keep driving until you can park comfortably. If people would get to campus with plenty of time before class, they wouldn’t have to cram themselves into the first available space. It really sucks when someone parks so close to your car that you have to climb through the passenger side to get in your own car. For some of us that is a damn uncomfortable and a sometimes painful process.

Then we have the people who can’t tell how close the front of their car is to the wall so they leave their tail end sticking out. WTF? If you can’t tell how close you are, get out and look. Don’t leave your car hanging part way out of the space.

Parking would be a lot less hectic if we showed up with plenty of time to park. If we pick a proper size space for the vehicle we are driving. People should be considerate of others and not block the driver’s side of the next vehicle. Use proper manners and open car doors gently. You may still have to touch the car next to you, but you don’t have to slam the door into it.

I would like to thank everyone for their attention to this matter. Remember, if you don’t think that any of this pertains to you then you already park properly and hate those who don’t or you are one of them and you don’t give a rat’s ass.
