Cody Allen passed for 320 yards and five total touchdowns as City College beat Laney College in the Laney Eagles Bowl 40-17 on Saturday night.
The performance was enough to earn Allen MVP honors, as he also added 56 yards rushing to his 320 passing.
Allen, who had the best statistical season for a passer in school history, finished the year with 3,616 yards passing and 40 total touchdowns, 34 of which were through the air. Allen had spent the previous four years prior playing minor league baseball.
Allen had plenty of help from his wide-outs, as he had two receivers over 100 yards, with Joe Periera snagging six passes for 131 and Robert Rogers had seven catches for 116. Both receivers also had a touchdown.
The Panthers started slow, with a 1-4 record over their first five games under interim head coach Dannie Walker. However Walker manage to rally his team to win five of their last six games, a share of the Mid-Empire conference title, and a bowl win. The Panthers finished 6-5, with a 3-1 conference record.
