City College’s women’s golf team came from nine strokes behind to beat Bakersfield College by five strokes to win their first state chamionship.
The panthers entered they second day of the competition down by a combined nine strokes, but finished strong to take the title.
City College was lead by strong preformances from state runner up Kayla Riede, who had a combined score of 155 between the two days. Erika Salinas finished fourth overall shooting a 160. Both were state medalists, awarded to the top six golfers.
Coach Tim Kiernan is the first ever City College coach to win state championships in two sports, winning three others with the softball team.
