International delegates hold SCC forum on democracy

Visitors open dialogue with students on U.S. politics, culture

The Saudi Arabian Social Sciences teacher was one of 11 speakers at a conference promoting "Grassroots Civic Engagement" held at the City College Cultural Awareness Center.

Eleven delegates from various North African and Middle East nations spoke about American democracy and culture at a noon-hour foum in the Cultural Awareness Center at City College. The event was called the “Grassroots Civic Engagement, a regional project for North Africa and the Near East,” and is part of the United States Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, according to the event’s flier.

A primary objective of the program is to illustrate democracy in the United States and the significance of citizen participation and activism in civil society, according to the U.S. Department of State.
