A student was struck by a car while standing still in the street outside City College.

A student was struck by a car just outside City College while walking across Sutterville Road, just outside City College, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 6.

The female victim sustained injuries to the head, but was conscious when she was taken to the hospital within 15 minutes after being struck, according to witnesses.

After seeing the accident, a bystander rushed into the street to help the woman out from under the car. Several witnesses say they called 911 as soon as they heard the accident, and several more witnesses helped direct traffic until police and paramedics arrived.

The victim was reportedly standing still in the middle of the road just before the accident, and was not at a stoplight or a crosswalk. A Sacramento police officer responding to the accident said it’s against the law to cross the street anywhere other than a crosswalk.

According to the driver, the victim was a 54-year-old woman on her way back to school.
