Game spirit up despite loss

Pre-game enthusiasm runs high

Although the City College football team had high expectations for the Homecoming game Saturday, Oct. 3 against Modesto, the Panthers took the short end of the stick. With a score of 53-28, City College was left disappointed.

However, before the game, the Panthers were filled with a tremendous amount of confidence and excitement.

“Of course we’re going to win,” said receiver Brandon SooHoo. “We’ve had a lot of better practices.”

With a previous record of 1-3, Panthers were hoping to use this game as a comeback.

“We played Modesto twice last year and lost,” said Angelo Pree, cornerback. “We have four different films of our opponents, but we normally have two. We need to win this game. We’re in the hole.”

“I think they’re a good team,” said cheerleader Faith Gorman, before the game. “They have just as good of a chance to win as anyone else.”

Even with all of the confidence and support, City College was unable to declare themselves the winner of the annual Homecoming football game.

“Next time we’ll come out more explosive, and jump on our opponents in the early quarters of the game instead of waiting till the later parts of the game,” said Chavous McWhorter, running back. “We also need to play with more passion and heart. It’s going to take the defense, offense and special teams to get the remaining wins in our season.”
