City College has a lasting tradition of excelling in athletics. That traditioncontinued last week when City College announced the 2009 athletics Hall of Fame honorees:
Carol James – 1965-1967 – basketball,
field hockey, softball
Jeff Kubiak – 1985 – swimming
Jose Reyes – 1983-84 – wrestling
Shawna Smith Virga – 1982-1983 – softball
Alex Van Dyke – 1991-1993 – football,
track
Pete Vartanian – 1951-1952 – baseball,
football
Beth Hightower – administrator – inducted posthumously
1941-1942 track team inducted posthumously
These athletes and administrators join a respected group of City College
alumni, which includes Larry Bowa, current third-base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers and two-time Super Bowl starter, tight end Robert Awalt.
A ceremony will take place at the Dante Club on April 17 at 6 p.m.
