A female City College student was allegedly raped March 9, on the third floor of the Rodda Hall North building, according to the Los Rios Police Department.
By March 11, police had notified the campus that a suspect had come forward and was cooperating with the investigation. According to the first campus crime bulletin released, the suspect was an African-American male in his 20s and knew the female victim, whose age is unknown as campus police had not responded to the Express inquiry as of press time. Due to the ongoing investigation, police are not releasing information about the suspect or the exact location of the alleged assault.
Police said the female victim is believed to have been lured to the third floor of Rodda Hall North, where she said she was sexually assaulted. She told police she was ultimately able to free herself and escape.
Students have expressed concern over the disturbing news.
City College student Brittany Wolfgramm couldn’t believe her eyes as she read the police bulletin on the third floor on Rodda Hall North the week of the crime.
“I never thought anyone would get sexually assaulted up here,” Wolfgramm said. She later stated that she no longer felt safe on the third floor.
Despite the fact that security bulletins pertaining to the alleged rape have been posted throughout the campus, when questioned many students did not know about it.
“The problem is people don’t bother to read the bulletins, they just keep moving,” said art major German

According to psychology professor Gayle Pitman, this event signifies a definite need for improved security on campus.
“I don’t think that any campus can be 100 percent safe,” Pitman said. “There’s going to be crime any place. But the fact that a crime of that magnitude happened the other day at all says there’s probably more to be done when it comes to rape and sexual assaults.”
College police sergeant Brian Washington believes that limited resources have affected the level of security on campus.
“We can’t be everywhere at once,” Washington said. “Unfortunately you can’t prepare for every crazy incident or every criminal act that comes along.”
According to Washington, the investigation is far from over and there are still many unresolved questions regarding the alleged sexual assault.

Our security on campus sucks. They are never around and all hang out in their office or are too busy giving us tickets, instead of patrolling the grounds and buildings.
Last fall, I saw a homeless guy urinate by the auditorium with everything hanging out, and the security was no where to be found.
I think if they spend less time writing students tickets, they patrol the campus and the parking structure. I refuse to part there at night, because it is a ghost town.
